Claude Moore Park

***Edited to add: I still love photographing dogs at Claude Moore Park, but location sessions are now reserved for Legacy Sessions.***

The big question for any outdoor photography session….where should we have the session?

While I like to hold sessions close to the dog’s home, there are clients who prefer I pick the spot for the session.

One of my favorite places to photograph dogs is Claude Moore Park in Sterling, VA.

Located in Loudoun County, Virginia, Claude Moore Park has trails, ponds, old buildings that make for great backgrounds, and wildflowers at certain times of the year. It is also said that George Washington went through that area, so you history buffs, take note.

It’s a great location for dogs most dogs, though depending on the time of year, it becomes a popular location for other dogs, so it may not be the best location for reactive dogs. For dogs with mobility issues, we can limit how much we walk around the park.

Leash laws do apply, so your pup will be on leash for their session. But no worries, Photoshop magic will make those leashes disappear.

Sunset photo sessions are great for those who want the pond in the background of their images.

I meet my clients by the Heritage Farm Museum and we take off from there. I’ll let your dog sniff around for a bit and then we will start photographing by some of the park’s buildings.

As we continue our stroll through the park, we will come across some open spaces to take more photos.

Depending on the time of year your session takes place, we will have different flowers and blossoms to use in your photos.

An early fall session gave us some yellow wildflowers to use as a backdrop.

Spring blossoms added a touch to our morning session.

Claude Moore Park has several walking paths that area also wonderful to photograph.

A great place to finish your sunset session is in front of one of the ponds. Golden light streams through the trees to give a dreamy glow on the pond.
