It is with great sadness to let you know Lance has passed away.
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Lance Koa Sehnert-O’Neill.
He was and will always be a good boy.
Lance was born in Fayette County, West Virginia.
In April 2016, he was rescued by New River Animal Rescue and an angel named Mary nursed him back to health.
Lance’s woman, Lynn, first saw Lance’s photos online and read his story and knew she would be taking him home. She may have elbowed some people out of the way to be the first one in line to adopt Lance.
When Lance dropped a flip flop onto Lynn’s head the first night in his new home, everyone knew they were in for an adventure.
Despite Lance’s years of abuse in his former home, he was a boy who loved his people and wanted to be loved.
Lance was a career criminal who never fully was reformed, despite what he told people.
He was accused of killing a turtle. The charges were dropped after he bribed the arresting officer with plenty of kisses and face licks.
Lance was a known bed thief. If you got up in the middle of the night, there was a good probability Lance would be laying in your spot when you returned. He either didn’t understand or he chose to ignore you when you told him that spot was saved. He thought it meant it was saved for him.
Lance stole the hearts of many women. The ladies loved Lance and Lance loved the ladies. His typical MO would be to walk up a woman and charm her with his blonde eyelashes and signature style. If that didn’t work, he would put his head in her hands. They would ooh and ahh over him. Kids also liked Lancy and despite his issues, would always be gentle with them.
Lance was a goofy boy who liked the simple things in life. He liked his daily walks, sleeping in a comfortable bed with Lynn, and playing tug when he came in from his walks. Lance’s favorite food was Chick-fil-a Chick-n-minis. When he knew he was going to CFA, he would bark excitedly in the car, much to the chagrin of many CFA employees. When we would get home, he would dance with anticipation for his chicken. He was excellent at catching his treats.
His favorite thing in the world to do was to roll in the grass on his back. Sometimes he managed to roll in other stuff and then his people had to come up with creative ways to clean him since Lancy refused to take baths. Lance also thought goose poop was a delicacy. His people were sure not to let him give kisses after his feasts.
He was a couch potato who loved sitting with his people. But sometimes sharing the couch turned into Lance taking over the couch.
While Lancy wasn’t a big fan of riding in the car, he always had the driver’s back by sitting directly behind the driver. But of course, if you wanted to ride in the back seat with him, that would be the time he would decide to lay down, leaving you with only a small portion of the seat.
Lance loved his walks with his dad. They had a beautiful connection and Lance was always happy to see Ed when he came home from work. Lance also knew how to lay on the charm to get all sorts of goodies from him.
Lance lived his life with a sense of gratitude. He knew he had a good life and was a happy boy who was grateful for all he had. He was always up for a good belly rub and would paw you when you tried to stop petting him before he was ready.
Lance was known by many aliases: Lancy, Lancypants, Lancis, St. Lancis of Assisi, Sir Lancelot, Love Muffin, Mr. Handsome, Mr. Happy, Lub, Love, Dude, Doowoo, Doo, Lances K Pantses and many more.
To honor Lance’s memory, please consider making a donation in his memory to New River Animal Rescue. They saved Lance from his abusive situation and took care of him until he was ready to come to Virginia.
